He is one of the top 5 Prophets of Islam. Unlike other Prophets who performed miracles, Isa (AS) himself was a miracle, as he was born of a virgin mother, and Allah (SWT) describes him and his mother Maryam (AS) as follows:
And [mention] the one who guarded her chastity [i.e., Mary], so We blew into her [garment] through Our angel [i.e., Gabriel], and We made her and her son a sign for the worlds. ~Surah Al- Anbya 21: Verse 91
He was born without a father, hence he is known as Isa ibn Maryam i.e. Isa (AS) the son of Mary.
With the permission of Allah (SWT), Isa (AS) did miracles. This has been confirmed by Quran as follows:
And We did certainly give Moses the Scripture [i.e., the Torah] and followed up after him with messengers. And We gave Jesus, the son of Mary, clear miracles and supported him with the Pure Spirit [the angel Gabriel i.e Ruh Al Quds]. ~Surah Baqarah 2: Verse 87
Some of the miracles that are mentioned in the Quran:
1. Spoke while he (Isa A.S) was still in cradle
[Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a Prophet. And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and zakāh as long as I remain alive. And [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant. And peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I am raised alive." ~Surah Maryam 19: Verses 30:33.
2. A table spread with food from the Heaven
[And remember] when the disciples said, "O Jesus, Son of Mary, can your Lord send down to us a table [spread with food] from the heaven?" [Jesus] said, "Fear Allah, if you should be believers". They said, "We wish to eat from it and let our hearts be reassured and know that you have been truthful to us and be among its witnesses." Said Jesus, the son of Mary, "O Allah, our Lord, send down to us a table [spread with food] from the heaven to be for us a festival for the first of us and the last of us and a sign from You. And provide for us, and You are the best of providers. Allah said, "Indeed, I will send it down to you, but whoever disbelieves afterwards from among you - then indeed will I punish him with a punishment by which I have not punished anyone among the worlds." ~ Surah Maidah 5: Verses 112:115
3: He blew sole into a clay bird, healed the blind and leper, gave life to the dead:
And [make him] a messenger to the Children of Israel, [who will say], 'Indeed I have come to you with a sign from your Lord in that I design for you from clay [that which is] like the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird by permission of Allah. And I cure the blind [from birth] and the leper, and I give life to the dead - by permission of Allah. And I inform you of what you eat and what you store in your houses. Indeed in that is a sign for you, if you are believers. ~ Surah Ali Imran 3: Verse 49
Isa (AS) prophecised about the coming of the final Messenger:
As mentioned in the Quran..
..And (remember) when Isa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), said: "O Children of Israel! I am the Messenger of Allah unto you, confirming the Tawraat [(Torah) which came] before me, and giving glad tidings of a Messenger to come after me, whose name shall be Ahmad". But when he (Ahmad, i.e. Muhammad) came to them with clear proofs, they said: ‘This is plain magic’ ~ Surah Al Saff 61: Verse 6
The return of Isa (AS) onto this Earth:
As mentioned in the Quran..
..and for their saying, “We have certainly killed the Masih Isa the son of Maryam, the Messenger of Allah”, while in fact they did neither kill him, nor crucify him, but they were deluded by resemblance. Those who disputed in this matter are certainly in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it, but they follow whims. It is absolutely certain that they did not kill him. But Allah lifted him towards Himself. Allah is Al Aziz (All-Mighty), Al Hakeem (All-Wise). ~Surah Nisa 4: Verses 157:158
Isa (AS) has not died yet; Allah raised him up (with his body and soul) unto Himself and he is in the heavens. Allah raised him up unto Himself because the Jews wanted to kill him, and he will descend again at the end of time and rule the earth according to Islam. He will live for as long as Allah wants him to, then he will die and the Muslims will pray [the janaazah or funeral prayer] for him.
Al-Bukhaari (2222) and Muslim (155) narrated that Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger (SWS) of Allah said: “By the One in Whose hand is my soul, soon the son of Maryam will descend among you [according to another report: the Hour will not begin until the son of Maryam descends among you] as a just judge. He will break the cross, kill the pigs and abolish the jizyah (tax), and money will become abundant until no one will accept it.”
The coming of Mahdi (AS), the appearance of Dajjal and the descend of Isa (AS) are among the major signs of the Final Hour. The Signs of the Hour are the signs that will precede Yawm al-Qiyaamah (the Day of Judgement). After the Dajjaal has appeared and spread corruption throughout the earth, Allah will send Isa (AS), who will descend to the earth, coming down to the white minaret in the East of Damascus, Syria, resting his hands on the wings of two angels. He will come to fight the Dajjaal (Anti-Christ). He will descend at the time when the iqaamah for prayer is being given, and he will pray behind the Imam of that group. These are the prophecies given by our Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him).
